Today I found this site, which has a number of combat reports from 9 February 1945. Hopefully this will shed some more light on the claims/losses that day:

Hello folks!
The artwork has been finished and uploaded in its own topic. Please have a look. Your comments would be much appreciated! http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=6897 This post also includes a sound recording of Bill Lyons telling about the 9 Feb '45 air battle. Have a look & listen! In the end I went for an Me 109, but I still am not sure if this was the right choice. I guess we may never know... Thanks for all the help!
