Re: Ju 52, II./TG 3, 23.01.1945

Hello,

The book "2nd TAF, Vol.3", on pages 408-409 do have NO claim over Ju 52 by Mosquito airmen, although two crews from 409 Squadron claimed a Ju 88 and a Ju 188.

However, a Ju 52 was claimed around 11:50hs taking off from Gutersloh, by two airmen from 3 Squadron, flying Hawker Tempests: F/L Fairbanks and W/O Torpy. Those two went on to claim a further 1 Ju 88 probably destroyed and two damaged on the ground of the same airfield.

Most humbly yours
Adriano B.

Just confirming

F/L D. C. Fairbanks was flying on board of Tempest V, serial EJ643

The other airman was Warrant Officer J L R Torpy.

Re: Ju 52, II./TG 3, 23.01.1945

Hello,

The airmen involved in the shootdown of the Ju 52, were:

J9069 F/L David Charles FAIRBANKS DFC RCAF and...
AUS420306 W/O James Leslie Roy TORPY RAAF (not "TORPEY", as quoted in several refs).

Col.
