has Clyde East scored all of his kills in the North American F-6 ?

Re: Clyde East

East scored two in F-6C (P-51C-1 and -5-NT) and 11 in F-6D (P-51D-10-NA)

Re: Clyde East

Dear drgondrog,

this is of help. Thank you.
I assume, East is the top F-6 ace in terms of aerial kills, because Edward McComas did not score all of his kills in the F-6 (?)

Cheers,

Michael

Re: Clyde East

McComas is listed with all his scores in a P-51C but absent the serial numbers can't tell if they are F-6C or P-51C - not all the ships in a recon squadron were converted.

Re: Clyde East

Oh. I didn't know that McComas' P-51C might be a F-6. Where can I get the info neccessary to exclude this possibility ?

Re: Clyde East

Michael - if you have any of IARCs for 42-103621 it may say something about configuration. This is the only serial number that I have that MAY be correct. It would be a P-51C-5-NT and I believe that 20 P-51C-10-NT's were converted to F-6C, but no C-1 or C-5

Re: Clyde East

...hmm, you mean I we can prove that McComas scored his kills in a P-51C-5, we can rule out that it was an F-6 ?

Have a happy new year 2016 !

Re: Clyde East

Michael,

Clyde East died on July 30, 2014.

The available records for the 118th TFS do not specify the type of Mustang flown in their mission reports.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: Clyde East

Good morning,

oh, how sad ! Aged 93. I had hoped he would reach the century mark.
Thanks for the info.
The Clyde East photo in the OSPREY volume by Jerry Scutts is rather tiny.
Can you tell me where I can have a look on a photo on which I can see his face better ?

Have a nice Thursday,

Michael
