Erwin Kortlepel

Morning

Hope somebody can fill in Erwin Kortlepel's post combat career for me. He has twenty-five confirmed claims between 5th June 1940 and 23rd October 1941, but after this the only reference I have for him is that he was awarded the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 27th March 1942 as a Oberfeldwebel.

I assume that he went to a training unit? A date of death/Birth would be helpful.

Grateful for any assistance.

Kind Regards

Johannes

1944-12-16, Messerschmitt GmbH Regensburg, Bf 109K-4, 332333, Haselmühle bei Amberg, Unbekannt um 12.15 Uhr. Bruch 40 %.
Flugzeugführer Fhj-Ofw Kortlepel, Erwin Von Fl.Sonderkommando OKL (LP)

Don't know, whether he was wounded or killed, because that part of NVM is badly burnt.

Re: Erwin Kortlepel

According to the Tom Kracker database:

Kortlepel, Erwin. - Ofw. - 27 victories - 4./JG-3 (S.U.) Bf 109E in '40, Bf 109F-2 Werk # 6746 ""White 6 + -" (lost 6/24/41), Fw 190 DK-G(3/27/42), EP, EK 1 & 2, Fighter Operational Clasp MIA 6/24/41 in "White 6" over Russia; pilot returned. One known victory, his 1st, a Spitfire at Crevecoeur-le-Grand, 5 June, 1940. His 2nd, a Hurricane at Ashford on 28 August, 1940. His 3rd, a Hurricane S of London on 8 September, 1940. His 4th, a Hurricane S of London on 29 September, 1940. Magnus Report, final victory count may be higher.

We have nothing about this fellow in our own files because he was not an officer.

Good luck with your inquiries.
