Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

Hello Gianandrea,

this is very helpful info. Thanx.
I'm a passionate collector of top-scoring aces of aircraft types.
I included Bonnanini in my list of borderline cases:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ight=bonannini

Best greetings from Switzerland,

Michael

Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

Good afternoon Gentlemen,

Ugo Drago claimed 13 kills in the Bf109.
Does that make him the Italian top-scorer of that type ?

Have a good start into the new week,

Michael

Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

From Ali D'Italia Serie 1 Mini Fiat CR 25 claims made by this aircraft in 173rd Sqn

6 Feb 42 Blenhiem damaged by Lt Rindone this was most likely an aircraft of 21 Sqn 3 of which were shot down later by II/ JG 53

21 Jun 42 Beaufort claims by Lt Rindone and m.llo (PO?) Dori and or by convoy and destroyer Da Recco AA. Steamer Reichenfels hit in this attack

I hope this is of some use

Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

Good evening Gentlemen,

Håkan Gustavsson has updated the Teresio Martinoli kill list on his website:
http://surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/italy_martinoli.htm
Additional info about his shared claims can be found here:
https://www.lesasdelaluftwaffe.fr/au...sio-martinoli/
Currently, I'm working through OSPREY COMBAT AIRCRAFT vol.145 "Macchi C.202/C.205V Units in Combat".
Confusingly, Martinoli's final score is indicated as 22+8sh (p31) as well as 22+14sh (back cover). I'm particularly interested in the shared kills:
  1. 4May1942 shared with Querci, according to p18
  2. 9May1942 shared with Lucchini, according to the Italian wikipedia
  3. 3Jul1942 shared with two other pilots
  4. 3Jul1942 shared with two other pilots
  5. 3Jul1942 shared with two other pilots
  6. 16Sep42 shared with one other pilot
  7. 9Oct42 shared with one other pilot
  8. 22Oct42 shared with one other pilot
  9. 4Jul1943 shared with one other pilot
  10. 10Jul1943 shared with two other pilots
  11. 10Jul1943 shared with two other pilots
Can anybody tell me the dates of the other 3 shared kills provided the score of 22+14 is correct?
Furthermore, the German wikipedia says a 23rd personal kill was added later, when was it claimed (maybe a P-40 on 19Aug1942) ?
I also opened a separate Martinoli thread:
http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showth...ight=martinoli

Cheers,

Michael

The Ali D'Italia book on the Ca 133 also has info on the Ca 148s lost ect in Italian East Africa which are not in my notes from DCME

Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

Good morning James,

nice to hear from you. I never heard about a successful Caproni Ca.133 pilot but the top scorer of the Caproni Ca.32 (in WW1) seems to be Egidio Carta with 2 kills.

Have a good Sunday,

Michael

Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

Hello James,

yes, that's interesting.
I still have not ruled out that any other pilot had a higher Macchi M.C.200 score than Minguzzi.
This is the thread about it:

Have a good Monday,

Re: Italian aircraft and their top aces

I wondered if it's possible to determine the top scorers of the Fiat C.R.32 subtypes:
  • Fiat C.R.32: Joaquin García-Morato, likely at least 31,5 kills
  • Fiat C.R.32bis: Rodolphe the Hemricourt, possibly 14 kills
  • Fiat C.R.32ter: Julio Salvador, likely about 11 kills
  • Fiat C.R.32quater: Carlos Bayo, 8 kills
