KG6 loss on 28th March or 28th April 1943

Gentlemen,

On 28th April 1943 Ju.88A-14 3E+DT Werknr 1440986 of 9./KG6 was lost and crashed into the North Sea.
Crew consisted of:
FF: Fw Eugen BAMBACH, Erkm 73176/156
BO: Lt Anton KRATZER, Erkm 53924/6
BF: Uffz Hans HART, Erkm 73176/157
BS: Gefr Josef NETSCH, Erkm 73176/158

Only the body of Uffz Hart washed ashore on 26th June 1943 at 18.00 hrs in the vicinity of beach pole 5 near Den Helder, The Netherlands. His body was buried on 30th June at the cemetery of Huisduinen.

However, checking the useful site of the Volksbund it appeared that the date of death of Uffz was listed as 28th March.

Did I misfile this loss?

And is the pilot's name BAMBACH or BAUMBACH?

(I remember to have had the NVM of this loss but can't find it back to check above queries)

Thanks in advance,

Hans Nauta

Jan Horn lists this loss for 28th April and the FF as Fw. Hans Baumbach.

Re: KG6 loss on 28th March or 28th April 1943

Hello !

My loss list gives 28th of APRIL, maybe VOLKSBUND typo???

And name is given as
Baumbach, Hans
instead of
Bambach, Eugen.

bye,
FrankieS

Funny, Horn writes on page 65 of his book:
"Die 3E+DT ( 144068 ), die von Fw. Eugen Baumbach von der 7. Staffel gesteuert wird, erhält vermutlich einen Flaktreffer und stürzt ab".

But in the loss list (p. 246):
28.04.1943...09./KG 6...Fw. Hans Baumbach

Gents,

Thanks a lot for your answers. In this case the Volksbund seems to have a wrong date listed.

With concern to the correct forename pehaps a definite answer will come from the WASt.

And yes FrankieS, you're right about the Werknummer, I've made a weird typo (7 digits didn't even exist AFAIK)

Best regards,
Hans Nauta

Re: KG6 loss on 28th March or 28th April 1943

Hello.
I have come across this thread also today while looking to be unconfused after looking on another useful website for burial information and photos, Find a Grave

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg...GRid=65960357&

There is a picture of Uffz Hans Hart's grave and the headstone IS DATED 28.3.43 but his unit is given by "Fred" as 7./KG 4. It doesn't say where Fred got the unit information from. How likely is it that the date on the headstone is also a typo? Could it be two different crashes and confusion about which crew was on which aircraft, or two UFFZ Hans Harts! Does anyone have the NVM for these units, although, being on the Eastern Front it seems very unlikely that a crewman from 7./KG 4 would be washed up on the Dutch coast! Probably a transfer from 7./KG 4 to 9./KG 6 at some time, or more typos?
Looking forward to being finally unconfused.

All the best.

Bob.
