ZG2 StaKa question

During a work on Zerstorer Gr.Kdr. & StaKa database, some problem appeared:

I have very good info about I./ZG2 CO's (expecially in 1940), but very limited info about II./ZG2 (wich is ex-I./ZG52).

Does somebody have ANY info about StaKa's of that Gruppe?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: ZG2 StaKa question

A search through our personnel database came up with the following:

Kommandeur II./ZG 2:
Maj. Harry Carl (26.06.40 (or 19.07.40?) – 16.08.40 POW or MIA?) .
Maj. Wilhelm-Otto Leesmann (28.08.40 – 10.40)
Oblt. Heinz Roeber (08.41) acting
Hptm. Gerhard Weyert (22.04.42 – 03.10.42)

Staka within II./ZG 2:
Oblt. Werner Hoffmann (01.07.40 – 1941?) – Staffel unknown.

Staka 4./ZG 2:
None found!

Staka 5./ZG 2:
Hptm. Adolf Schuldt (? – 30.08.40 KIA)

Staka 6./ZG 2 :
Oblt. Ernst Hollekamp (? – 16.08.40 KIA) - possible Staka
Oblt. Willi Brede (c. 15.08.40 - 07.09.40 POW)

As for those mentioned by Robert, we have this:

KÜLBEL, Hans-Peter. (DOB: 24.07.09). 20.04.27 entered service with the Polizei. 01.12.34 trf to the Luftwaffe and sent to Fliegerschule Cottbus for pilot training. 03.35 received the Lw. advanced flying certificate. 01.01.36 appt Kp.-Chef at FFS Kitzingen. 01.03.36 appt course leader and Kp.-Chef at FFS Salzwedel. 01.04.38 trf to L.In.9/RLM (to 16.06.40). [01.12.39 appt Staka 2./ZG 2 – not in his records]? [21.09.39 appt Staka 2./JGr. 102 – not in his records]? 17.06.40 appt Staka in I./ZG 52. 12.08.40 Hptm. and Staka in I./ZG 2, KIA - shot down by fighters over Portsmouth, body washed ashore on 18.09.40 at Wimereux, near Boulogne.
SCHULDT, Adolf. 30.08.40 Hptm., Staka 5./ZG 2 KIA - shot down by 242 Sqdn. while escorting bombers, crashed at Rochford’s Nursery, Ponders End.
HEINLEIN, Eberhard. 13.08.40 Hptm., appt Kdr. I./ZG 2 (to 28.09.40 † - in Bf 110 crash near Tuttlingen/SW Germany during a ferry flight).

That’s about all we have on this subject.

Re: ZG2 StaKa question

According to Hoffmann, he was with 1/ZG 52 and wounded 19 Jun 40. He never served with ZG 2 as when recovered, he went direct to the Ergaenzungs-ZG Gruppe at Vaerlose

Re: ZG2 StaKa question

Doug

Since I never, before buying the Meyer/Stipdonk books, had any access to St Kap details, I have som questions.

II./ZG 2
According to them the unit did not exist in 8.1941, so I am puzzled by your mentioning of Heinz Roeber.

4./ZG 2 + 5./ZG 2 are as per Robert's list

6./ZG 2 is also as per Robert's list, so I am again puzzled about the names you state. I doubt Hollekamp was anything but a member of the Staffel, since no source I have mentions him, when killed, as St Kap. However a verification of your second individual would be nice since he would fit in very well as successor to Heinlein

Cheers
Stig

Re: ZG2 StaKa question

THX for answer gents.

But after accurate looking into table (wich gets more and more complete), questions are growing like muchrooms after rain.

1. For 2 Staffel I have
Hptm. Groth 01.05.1939>25.11.1939 (moved to Gr.Kdr. II./ZG76)
Oblt. Paul Semrau 01.11.1939>??.03.1940 (reason of leave?)
Hptm. (first name?) v. Greve ??.03.1940>??? (Actiong?, if not - reason of leave?)
Hptm. Hans-Peter Külbel ??.??.1940>12.08.1940 (so he cant be StaKa 4./ZG2)

Last was StaKa and Acting Gr.Kdr. I./ZG2 in same time, when Hptm. Ott was s/d and killed on previous day.

Oblt. Blume was then StaKa to 1.09.40 - what is a reason of leave? KiA? PoW?

Next: I have Oblt. Gottshalk (StaKa 2./ZG2) and Oblt. Kurt Muller (StaKa 3./ZG2) collided, PoW both?

Who then were StaKas after them, during almost all September?

2. For 3./ZG2 I have:

Oblt. Eberhard Sauer 07.11.1939>5.01.1940
Lt. Hans Roderer (acting?) 5.01.1940 > ??.03.1940

What was a fate of Oblt. Goetz on 25.07.40? S/d?

3. About Gruppenkomandeuren:
(correct me pls if I would mistake)

Maj. Ernsе Ott Of I./ZG2 and Hptm. Harry Carl of II./ZG2 lead both Gruppen from early july.

On 11 Aug. Maj. Ernst Ott was killed by RAF fighters, and Hptm. H.P.Kulbel became Acting Gr.Kdr. I./ZG2 & StaKa 2./ZG2.

But on the next day he was himself killed by RAF fighters.

Hptm. Christians (from what unit?) became acting Gr.Kdr. of I./ZG2, but till what date?

On 16 Aug., was time for II Gruppe, wich lost its Gr.Kdr. Hptm. Harry Carl.

Hptm. Eberhardt Heinlein became Acting Gr.Kdr. of II./ZG2.

Then (on unknown day) Maj. Karl-Heinz Lessmann becomes Gr.Kdr. II./ZG2, resulting Hptm. Eberhardt Heinlein went to Gr.Kdr. I./ZG2.

And finally, on tha last days of ZG2 - 28 Sept. Hpt. Heinlein died in crash, and on 29 Sept. Maj. Lessmann went to Erpr.Gr.210 As Gr.Kdr.

Re: ZG2 StaKa question

Also, Doug:

I have Hptm. Heinz Roeber as Gr.Kdr. of I./ZG2 during 15.04.1942 > 01.06.1942.

Also, have here a record Oblt. Ernst Hollekamp of II./ZG2 in summer 1940. If Kulbel cant be StaKa 4./ZG2, may be Hollekamp was?

ROEBER, Heinz. (DOB: 07.06.12 in Magdeburg). (DKG). 03.39 pilot in JG 234; later in 6./ZG 26. 08.41 acting Kdr. II./ZG 2. 06.03.42 Oblt., awarded DKG, II./ZG 26. 11.42 (03.43?) Hptm., appt acting Kdr. III./ZG 1. 1943-44 Ia in Stab/ZG 26. 01.09.43 promo to Maj. 12.02.45 Maj., appt Kdr. FFS A 43 (to 16.03.45).

II./NJG 2 (to 01.11.44). 01.05.44 promo to Maj. 12.11.44 Maj., appt Kommodore NJG 2 (to 08.02.45). 08.02.45 KIA – shot down by Spitfires while attempting to land at Twente/Holland. 17.04.45 posthumously awarded the Eichenlaub. Credited with c.350 combat missions and 46 air victories.

As for confirmations, this is difficult to impossible since the majority of this information comes from microfilms of original documents and is supplemented by data from better books. If there is a statement in our files, it is there for a good reason.

We hope that this clarifies things
