Re: Cap Mario Bellagambi

Maybe I'm a bit too late, but I read the topic only this morning.

I'm involved in a research on 150° Gruppo so had the chance to study some registries of the Unit.

Mario Bellagambi became comandante di squadriglia (364) on Dicember 1, 1941, when still a tenente. And remained in charge until August 15, 1943. As Ferdinando D'Amico already wrote, Bellagambi became capitano the 8-6-42 (with effect from 27-6-42).

Tenente Giuseppe Giannelli was comandante ad interim of 363 squadriglia in the summer of 1942 untill the end of October, when tenente Ugo Drago got that position. So, Ludovico, the only thing I can affirm is that in the autumn of 1942 and in he first months of 1943 he still signed documents as ten. Giannelli. I don't know when Giannelli became capitano.

About 365 squadriglia, we know that in autumn 1942 sottotenente Eugenio Lecchi was comandante ad interim, followed from sottetenente Ettore Caregnato and from a couple of others officers (ad interim) before Giannelli, now in the 365.

Hope that helps.

ciao a tutti

Manlio Palmieri

Re: Cap Mario Bellagambi

Dear Manlio,
you are perfectly right.
I gave a wrong info and I really don't know how it could happen, considering that the Yerbook of R.A. 1943 that I 've checked again -after reading your reply - is so clear under this aspect.
Giuseppe Gianelli, born on October the 30th 1915, was promoted Tenente not Capitano on February the 6th 1941. At the beginning of 1943 he was still a Tenente in the ranks of 150° Gruppo Autonomo and had been decorated with a bronze medal for bravery.
I really have to bag your pardon and that of Andrew and of the kind Ferdinando for my unrequested and mistaken intervention.
Thank you for the correction and the other interesting pieces of information.
:o
Ludovico.

Re: Cap Mario Bellagambi

Ludovico, don't tease me... what pardon and pardon!?

I'm always interested in yours discussions so kind and well documentaded. So in my opinion you don't need a pardon but a thanks, anyway.

I also wrote my post without invitation or request. Is it a shame? Do we need them to share a common interest?

Here or there is always a pleasure to discuss with you.

ciao

Re: Cap Mario Bellagambi

No problems, Ludovico, one always tries to help in good faith...

I'm however glad to see that my data and my memory are not so bad, after all...

Thanks especially to Manlio, for his precious and precise update.

Re: Cap Mario Bellagambi

Hi guys,

has Mario Bellagambi scored more kills in the Bf109 than Ugo Drago (13) ?

Cheers,

Michael
