Re: Do 335 with He 162
I may be far off the mark - but aren't that the remnants of an Me 262 on the right hand side ?

Re: Do 335 with He 162
Is there any evidence for all these advanced types (or remnants of) being at Oberpfaffenhofen?

Wolfgang, I can just say that all Do 335 books have errors. Smaller and bigger ones. I hope to correct some in my planned book. |

Thanks. I was hopeful for a little more detail but guess you're saving this for your book! Steve |

Re: Do 335 with He 162
Hi Jim,
the „WA“ on the burnt fuselage of the demolished He162 shown in the photo seems to be painted (over?) in another style than the letter/number on the opposite side of the black cross In my point of view „WA+…“ was not part of a Stammkennzeichen for the He162 –but a temporary code of the Erprobungsstelle Rechlin (test center ) for planes during evaluation of the guns (WAffenerprobung). So I have „WA+TA“ for Me262, WNr. 130 164 and „WA+02“ for Me262, WNr. 170 057. Interestingly, Me262, „WA+TA“ later became „E3+32“ when equipped with BMW003 jet engines. Maybe "WA+S_", (your assumption) could also be „WA+3_“ or „WA+5_“. Oberpfaffenhofen fits as location, as the Erprobungsstelle was stationed there at war`s end and there is no problem with advanced types such as Me262 and Ar234 found destroyed there. Many Do335 in various states of completion were captured there. As far as I know, no Do335 were captured at Neubiberg, but transfered later to this airfield. Regards, Karl |

Re: Do 335 with He 162
Thank you, Karl. It makes sense now.
If I may ask one last question in regards the identification of wreckage. Did the Ar 234 have leading edge wing slots? Jim |

Hello Karl,
in Forsyth and Creek "He 162 Spatz" is listed: He 162 M30 WNr. 220013, VI+IW, later WA+51, Erstflug 24 Feb 1945. Regards Leo |

Re: Do 335 with He 162
Hello Rottler,
thanks for this information! So it is probable, that we see the remains of He162 "WA+51" on this photo together with other wrecks of the Erprobungsstelle at Oberpfaffenhofen Best regards, Karl. |
