Hi all !
According to local info in the early morning hours of 13.06.1941 after
a raid onto a military training field a RAF a/c was shot down
landing in the marshes of Schloss Werries (castle), 4 crew all being KIA.

Any hints to the identitiy of that a/c ?

Thank you, bye,

Re: RAF a/c shot down on 13.06.1941 Hamm, Germany

Hello Frankie!

This is my assumption based on the fact that from two Hampdens lost this night one had crashed into the sea, while the crew of this Hampden now buried at Reichswald. 91 Hampdens were out to attack rail yards at Soest that night, British crews encountered haze and cloud over Soest so only 42 aircraft bombed the primary, remaining bombed secondary targets - Hamm, Dortmund and Münster. The information about the mission is from 'Beware of the Dog at War' by John Ward. The book is the history of 49 Squadron (which also detailed aircraft for this raid) based on unit's records

James

AE127 was also from 44 Squadron. Of this crew Sgt Wardrop was killed and the rest, including F/Lt Shaughnessy DFC were captured. See Chorley's BCL vol.2

Frankie

www.LostAircraft.com has "Schloss Oberwerrie" as the location. (Last edited by Leo7)

Is this an area that you focus on i.e. Hamm, Arnsberg, NRW?

Sorry that this is a little off topic, but I'd like to make contact with any researchers from the Hamm area. As I'm interested in a Lanc that crashed SE of Hamm in March of 1944.

Thanks
Robert
