9 August 1940

Hi guys

I note that Peter C records three damaged Spitfires of 64 Squadron returning to Hawkinge during the late afternoon of 9 August following combat with
Bf109s, but I can't find any German claims for Spitfires or Hurricanes on this date.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Brian

Re: 9 August 1940

Thanks for that Chris

OK, but do you know which unit 64 Squadron may have encountered near Hawkinge in late afternoon?

Cheers
Brian

Re: 9 August 1940

I/JG 53 would have been operating out of Rennes/Cherbourg which I think is well away from 64's area of operation. Accortding to the logbook I have for 1/JG 53, the pilot flew no operational missions that day but flew from Rennes to Guernsey and back again that evening
