Sqn Ldr Mike Wight-Boycott, 219 Sqn
Does anyone have a copy of his combat report for 20-21 Sep 41. He claimed a Ju 88 but it appears it was a He 111 of 9./KG 40. Not easily visible to me in the NA

Re: Sqn Ldr Mike Wight-Boycott, 219 Sqn
Morning Chris,
I have a copy of 'From Dusk till Dawn' the history of 219 squadron. My understanding is that it was written with access to the squadrons archives and from interviews with squadron aircrews I'll take a look at that and see if it mentions your incident and let you know the outcome. Kind regards Gerry |

No help what-so-ever Chris, but the name Boycott is interesting.
Boycott can't be a very usual name. Was he by any means related to the famous Charles Boycott? Cheers Stig |

It is an unusual name - there was a pilot of the same surname on one of my old RAF Squadrons when I was a pilot 10 years ago, always wondered if he was related to him.

Well known family-I believe that there is a Lt Col still serving with the same name and another was Nimrod-related. Bit like Drummond-Hay. Boycott not that uncommon:

I am now in contact with his son who will be searching the attic for this missing report. All other reports for him are at the NA

Re: Sqn Ldr Mike Wight-Boycott, 219 Sqn
Interesting bit from 1944 on Wight-Boycott
From the 109 Squadron ORB June 29 1944. Mosquito XVI ML961 F/L R.M. Sleep & F/S W.C. Bridgford. “Target as detailed SCHLOVEN. No attack. A/C reached posn. 5240N. 0545 E. when Captain decided to return owing to mechanical failure. Landed at COLTISHALL on one engine and with instruments U/S. W/C Wight-Boycott D.S.O., of 25 Sqdn. Took off and guided F/L Sleep in through the cloud to land.” |
