Oberleutnant Henschel 6/Trägergruppe 186

Gents,

Does anyone have any info on an Oberleutnant u. Offizier z.b.V. Henschel with FP Nr. 18152Träger Jagd-Staffel 6./186, then 6./Jagd-Geschwader II./186 from 1939 to beginning of 1940. Not sure if he was still there when the unit became III/Jagdgeschwader 77.

He also signs as Staka but I believe that was Heinrich Seeliger at the time?

Larry has the following officer but the part I am interested in is not there?

HENSCHEL, Julius Lebrecht Otto. (DOB: 13.03.15). 01.07.39 Lt., 5./Bo.Fl.Gr. 196. 01.42 Oblt, Staka Erg.St./JG 27. 10.42 Hptm., appt Staka 8./JG 1 (to 07.11.42). 07.11.42 Hptm., 8./JG 1 KIA – in Fw 190 A-3 that blew up during a take-off collision at Stavanger-Sola. Buried at Trondheim-Havstein.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

Re: Oberleutnant Henschel 6/Trägergruppe 186

When he was killed on 7 Nov 1942, he had EKM 62519/2, which was issued by Stab III/JG 77 in April 1940. So, it seems that the answer to your question is yes, he was still there.

Re: Oberleutnant Henschel 6/Trägergruppe 186

Lt. Julius Henschel was posted to 6./186 in early July 1939, coming from JFS Werneuchen, but was assigned to the newly established 5./186 effective 15 July 1939. He had originally joined the Navy in 1935 where he was first posted to the maritime air branch before he was transferred from the Navy to the Luftwaffe in December 1937, whether voluntarily or not I cannot say; there were several pilots with a similar career in the Navy who did not intend at all to join the Luftwaffe - for details see the unit history of JG 77, Vol. 1, p 33/34 and 51.
