Re: Serial Numbers BMW 003
Hi Roger,
From J. Richard Smith with William Conway, The Heinkel He 162: No. 203, Profile Publications: (c. 1970) AM 58 120021 or 120221 TL395919 … AM 59 120076 TL395845 … AM 60 120074 TL394681 … AM 61 120072 TL395537 … AM 62 120086 ------- ... AM 63 120095 TL394308 ... AM 64 120097 TL395905 ... AM 65 120227 TL395914 … AM 66 120091 TL395306 … AM 67 120098 TL395843 … AM 68 ------ ------ … It has been years since I copied these, so they need to be checked and I have lost my copy of the profile. Re: Serial Numbers BMW 003
Hi Jim,
Thank you very much. That's very helpful and the number I am researching matches well into these serial number blocks. Did the profile also mention if the engines were E-1 or E-2 jets? Roger |

Re: Serial Numbers BMW 003
Unfortunately, no. Just the TL followed by the engine werknummer.
For what it is worth, Lt. Robert A. Hoover in his flight report on 25 September 1946, after testing W.Nr. 120077, indicated the engine was a "BMW 109-003-E-2" but did not file its werknummer. |

Re: Serial Numbers BMW 003
Hello Roger and Jim,
Using known BMW 003 Typenschildern and interpolation, I believe that the following BMW-Flugmotorenwerk-Brandenburg-built BMW 003 MNrn. are E-2s: 395306; 395308 (or 394308?); 395537; 395681 (or 394681?); 395843; 395845; 395905; 395914; 395919. If correct, the two bracketed MNrn., 394308 and 394681 above, stand alone as the only examples I have collected from the 394xxx series. I have opted to show them as being from the 395xxx series because, as such, they dovetail perfectly with known 395xxx Motornummern. As always, corrections and conformations are greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Steve Sheflin |

Re: Serial Numbers BMW 003
Hello Jim and Steve,
Thank you very much for the information. According to CIOS XXVI-30 the difference between the A-1 (E-1) and A-2 (E-2) were among other details the number of turbine blades: 66 in the -2 and 77 in the -1. If true and if a photo of the turbine is available, one could determine the version by counting the turbine blades. Roger |

Re: Serial Numbers BMW 003
PS: The E-1 of the NASM seems to have 77 blades:
