490 Sqn U/B attack 11 Aug 43

On 11 August 1943, W/C Baird and F/L Ward attacked a surfaced U-boat off Dakar with four depth charges.

Would anyone know the co-ordinates for this sadly not mentioned in ORB pages or Summary.

Many Thanks

Andy Bird

Hi Andy

The U-boat attacked was U-757 (Kptlt Friedrich Deetz), which reported an unsuccessful attack by a flying boat in naval grid EK7829 (approx. 11°09'N/18°27'W) at 1232 hrs on 11 August 1943. The U-boat was not damaged by the depth charges that fell 50 meters astern and then escaped by crash diving after keeping the aircraft on distance with the AA guns for 20 minutes.

Hello Rainer,

Thanks for this, will be able to fill in this gap in the F/L Lloyd Trigg chapter.

Best regards

Andy
