P-38 "Freddy Locks IV"

E-Bay picture of nice looking P-38J. I'm guessing 9th AF.
Anyone identify?

Re: P-38 "Freddy Locks IV"

Indeed Kaki

No help here, but I was intrigued by the name given and checked the net.
Could the name have something to do with the P-38 type can opener?
http://www.georgia-outfitters.com/page52.shtml

Although Fred is not mentioned there, it is here...
https://www.amazon.com/Fred-P38-Open...ews/B00BA1218M

Perhaps I read too much into it, but at least I had no idea there were can openers named P38 and P51. Must admit I had quite a laugh

Cheers
Stig

Kaki,

If going by the used letter type "596" on nose, then 367th FG a possibility?

Kaki 1

The style of the nose digits look strongly like a 367th ship. But the 370th GG ships had the same style of nose-digits, at least in summer 1944. Later this digits are rarely visible anymore by overpainting or grow pale.

Hope it helps.

Re: P-38 "Freddy Locks IV"

If '596' on nose is part of full serial, then there was a 44-23596 with 402nd FS/370th FG.
This P-38J had an accident at Florennes (A.78) on 1 Nov 1944.

Leendert
