Re: Oblt Hans Asmus

There may have been 3 of them, then. The 2 in Post #5, above, and the one in Post #8. The last of these seems to have been way too old to have been flying a Bf 109 over England in October 1940, but he could have been the staff officer with the Legion Condor. Further, I would imagine that someone born in 1895 would have been a bit old to join the Bundesluftwaffe in 1955. So who can connect the rest of the dots?

Asmus 2./22 is the same as Asmus Stab./JG 51. I believe he was asked if he was involved with Guernica which he stated he was not

Thanks for that. So he was repatriated after he was captured and swore not to fly in combat again which, or course, is exactly what more than a few of those returned to Germany did.

Re: Oblt Hans Asmus

Hallo Fran,

I am the researcher interested in Hans Asmus and the film diirector Karl Ritter. The man in the car in Zaragosa is Heinz Ritter, the son of Karl Ritter, who was a PK officer in his own right and also cameraman for many of Karl Ritter's films. Perhaps you provided the grandson of Karl Ritter in Argentina with a copy of the photo some time ago? He provided it to me and said someone had sent it to him (His name is Dr. Michael Ritter.)

The image you attached here is very small, and the one I have from Dr. Ritter is larger but somewhat blurry. Could you please consider sending me a larger, better resolution image? If I use it in my monograph, I would certainly credit it to you in my monograph if you provide your details. It was taken on 1 March 1939 on "Tag der Legion Condor".
Sincerely, William Gillespie, author THE MAKING OF THE CREW OF THE DORA (©2016) and KARL RITTER -His Life and 'Zeitiflms' under National Socialism (©2012,2014)

Re: Oblt Hans Asmus

Hello Bill,

Yes, one day I found by chance the Facebook page of the Ritter's grandson and I posted in his wall the mentioned photo thinking it could be of interest to him but he never bothered to contact me back.

I have sent a PM with my email address to Andy because I can reach your forum profile.

Regards
Francisco
