Lt. Walter McCreary- 332nd FG POW-P-51B serial number

Hi,

I'm trying to locate the correct S/N of Lt. McCreary's plane which was shot down over Hungary on October 12,1944.
I have a MACR listing which shows MACR 9084 with a serial number of 43-25881? as a possible MACR for Lt. McCreary.

The problem lies in that 43-25881? is not in the serial number range for P-51? The serial number range is (43)-24752-25251.

Good afternoon, kaki !

Indeed, there must be something wrong with this P-51B s/n. I am in the posseion of the MACR-list, arranged by serials of the a/c. Indeed, on page 992 a P-51B aircraft, listed under MACR 9084, AAF-s/n 43-25881 appears as MIA. This is no P-51 s/n and it must have been another s/n for this loss over Hungary.

All the best !

Somogybabod, not babold

Anyway, an interesting story (I managed to identify the AA unit, which claimed his A/C, and found Mr. McCreary in the USA too). As for the serial: Peter must be correct it is most probably 43-24881
