23 August 1941 - Ju 88 losses - Russland

Can someone point me to ju 88 losses on the 23rd August 1941 on the Russian Front.

Am looking for a machine that probably was later repaired and put onto service, so only with a % of damages.

The images do show that the 2 propellers apparently stopped and, on the subsequent belly landing, one of them almost came out of the camshaft.

I am not sure, but this seems to be a KG 3 machine. The crew survived.

Any help, most welcomed

Adriano

Hello Adriano,

in the GQM loss returns I have found two entries for 23 Aug 1941:

Stab I./KG 3 Feindflug, Ort: bei Bobruisk, Ursache unbekannt, Besatzung auf Weg zur Truppe (= crew on the way to the unit) Ju 88 A-6 WNr. 3423 100%

2./KG 3 Feindflug, Ort: bei Tschernikow, Jägerbeschuss, Ju 88 A-6 WNr. 3394 5K+MK 30%
Lt Otto Dörr crew, 4 missing

Regards
Leo

Leo, thank you very much for the KG 3 losses recorded that day.

The photo I do have do show the entire crew in front of a belly-landed machine who seems to have had engine failure (either by Flak or engine problems). The left propeller (seeing from inside the plane) was torn-off from the camshaft or hub during the belly landing.

It could be an Aufklärer machine also...Have checked Aufkl.Gr.122 (Andy site) and there is NO loss for this Squadron on that date. But it can be another Squadron.

What pointed me to a KG 3 machine is a very thin white or yellow band on the middle of the spinners.

Would you have on your GQM losses OTHER Ju 88 damaged in Russia that particular day?

Thanks and sorry to ask this

Adriano

LEO,
My deepest gratitude. Last machine seems a good candidate. Shall dig more about it.
Thank you immensely

Hello Adriano,

I don't know if this might be of some help, but this is what I've found in Peter Taghons book, Die Geschichte des LG 1, Band 1:
Lt. Sigismund Kloss and his crew were probably shot down by a P-40 during an attack on an allied convoy north of Sidi Barani.
the rest of the crew are:
BO Fw. Werner Pottschmidt ; BF Fw. Siegfried Dasse ; BS Obgefr. Xaver Greipl
The werke-nr differs a little : 3317 iso 3311.
Kind regards,

Dirk

Very kind of yours Dirk.
I shall add that information on my text, quoting the sources, of course. But the image I acquired is from a Ju 88 that belly landed (the full crew of 4 is depicted in front of the airplane) on Russland (Eastern Front).
According from the help given here, it is more likely that the image "may be" that of Leutnant Wolfgang Spohr crew and machine.

Thank you for your kind answer and help with the LG 1 crew.

Adriano

You can find all the GenQu.6.Abt. LW loss volumes downloadable from the BAMA Invenio site (see the sticky at the head of this page). The volume with the Aug-41 losses is RL 2-III_1178. Someone in that thread has listed the contents of each of the Volumes.

JIM could you give me a hand please?
I found reel RL 2-III, but where I go after that?
Do I need to go to the subsequent reel 2.5 - Fliegertruppe?

I found some files whilst inside item 2.5 - Fliegertruppe but can NOT find RL2-III_1178

I tried on the SUCH (SEARCH) facility...digiting or inserting RL 2-III_1178 and got no answer or feedback from the site...than only 1178...no joy either...

Any tip most welcomed

A.
