Lt Josef Kociok death?
I read about the 31Jul43 shoot down of four Po-2 bombers of the "Night Witches" of the 588 NBAP involving a night fighter. I found on Tony Woods list 3 R-5's for the same area by Josef Kociok, 10(Nachtjagd)./ZG1. I checked and saw that he later went to 5./NJG200. How did he die?

Re: Lt Josef Kociok death?
In Ernst Obermaiers book about RK winners from the Jagdwaffe, it states that on the night between sept. 26. and 27. 1943, he collided with the russian DB-3, he just had shot down. This happened in Kertsch/Crimea.
When he and his BF Fw. Wegerhoff jumped out of their Me 110 G-2, Wnr. 6392, Kocioks parachute did not open and he fell to his death. Posthumously he was promoted to Leutnant. Hope this helps a little. Christian

Re: Lt Josef Kociok death?
Actually, he shot down 4 Po-2 (as it is mentioned in 4 different books of "night witches"):
pilot Anna Vysotzkaya, observer Galina Dokutovich pilot Evgeniya Krutova, observer Elena Salimova pilot Evgeniya Suhorukova, observer Aleksandra Rogova pilot Valentina Polunina, observer Irina Kashirina All four Po-2 from "WOMENS" 46 GvNBAP (Guards Night Bomber Aviation Regiment" were shot down in row, but Kociok did'nt claim last his victory. Ranks of crew unknown untill now for me. I'll check it later.

Re: Lt Josef Kociok death?
Eugen, Josef Kociok claimed a PS-84 on the night of 15May43. Was this the TB-3 flown by Nikolai Alexeyevich Bobin (HSU) that crashed at the airfield from the damage? Translators don't give correct spellings of place names for names used by Russians so I couldn't understand the location of the raid and place of crash.
