Operation Fritham May-June 42

This makes interesting reading:

http://www.worldnavalships.com/forum...p/t-11084.html

The Fw 200s were from 3./KG 40 led by Hptm Bernhard Jope

However, from what unit was the He 111 spotted at Banso on 13 May 42 and what was the Ju 88 destroyed by 210 Sqn on 26 June 42?

Re: Operation Fritham May-June 42

It is from the book "Wekusa Luftwaffe Meteorgical Reconaissnce Units and operations 1939-1945" the He111 was 1B+DH the crew was Ltn R Schutze, Wd Ass Dr Etienne, Ofw Kalter, Ogefr Vogt, Ogefr Allinger and 'Johnny' riechert, an experienced flight engineer. As soon as the crew landed and left the aircraftCatalina DA-N of 210 Sqn and made 8 attacks on the plane and party. The german party was unhurt but the He111 had been hit. After a short runway was prepared Schutze and Kalter took off and made it back to their base in Banak.
This book has a much better account of operation Frithamn than the above article.
As for the Ju 88 1B+GH the book has on 14 June the propellers being bent when the pilot landed on the boggy airstrip redering the plane unservicable

Hi,

There's a very good report in "Wetterflieger in der Arktis" by Selinger and Schwerdtfeger and also in my article published many years ago in Fana de l'aviation
