Fw 109 in Catania

Hi all,

Does anyone have more information on this abandoned Fw 190 in Catania? The WNr doesn't show on the photo.

Thanks in advance,
Rudi.

Re: Fw 109 in Catania

The title should of course read Fw 190 and not Fw 109.

Does anyone know what the yellow O on the fuselage stands for? I'm not an expert on German fighters, but that's the first time I see such a strange marking.

The same aircraft can be seen here at around 2 minutes playing time:

Does anyone recognizes the emblem? It looks a bit like 5./SchG2 but the colors are different.

Regards,
Rudi.

Hi Rudi,

This aircraft is featured on page 129 of Morten Jessen and my Focke-Wulf Fw 190 in the Battle for Sicily book. 'Yellow O + ' belonged to 7./Sch.G. 2, and had the WNr. 0150 1437. It was damaged in a bombing raid on Catania on 4 July 1943.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Hey Andrew
Do you know if this aircraft was a subject of any profile artist?

Hey Milos,

Yes, Claes Sundin did a very nice profile of 'Yellow O + ' for our Sicily book. It also appears in our eArticle, 'Striking at the Allied Advance' (http://airwarpublications.com/earticles/frontline/). I'm sure I've seen it profiled somewhere else, but can't remember where at the moment.

Cheers,
Andrew A.

Hi Milos,

Found it! It's also profiled on page 17 of Erik Mombeeck's Luftwaffe Gallery No. 2.
