Sure looks like an Ar 196;

not sure this info helps;
"In Aegean Sea, on April 3rd, the "7R+LK (WNr. 277) of Stab. 126 was reported missing at Sideron Cape (Greece). On April 21st, the WNr. 229 of I./126 was destroyed when landing at Volos (crew safe) and on April 30th, the WNr. 208 (Ar 196 A-3) of 2.(F)/125 crashed near the Krios Cape (crew safe). On May 29th, the "DI+IH" (Ar 196 A-3 WNr. 298) of I./126 was attacked by the Beaufighters of 227 Sqn and landed. It was "straffed" and its pilot, Lt Josef Müller, was killed. On June 4th, the "DI+AL" (WNr. 36) was reported missing."

Is it not that DI+IH and DI+AL are both D1+IH and D1+AL so vkz instead of stkz registrations.

Re: the wreck of a German plane in Volos harbour

Hello,

I think, the plane on the pic, could be

FF. Fw. Hans Kornblum (vw.), Ar 196 (D1+DH, W.Nr. 0229) 100% m. BO. Ltn. Franz Römer,
21.04.43 Kolission mit Boot bei Wasserlandung in Volos

Any ideas??

Re: the wreck of a German plane in Volos harbour

Hi, Byron...

I believe Peter van Gogh is just highlighting the presentation of the codes. DI+IH and DI+AL, when presented this way, suggest an Stkz (Stammkennzeichen - factory code), when in fact as he has pointed out, they should be D1+IH and D1+AL, where the alpha-numeric presentation suggests an operational unit code - Vkz (Verbandkennzeichen).

Regards,

Paul
