DBAG Data Plate
I recently obtained this plate from a source in Russia. It was reportedly found at the wartime location of the Luftwaffe airfield at Pitomnik near Stalingrad (now Volgograd).
I imagine D.B.A.G. refers to Daimler-Benz A.G., possibly linking the plate to the engine system, while 8/109 indicates a Bf 109 airframe relationship. From plate numerics, is it possible to establish the specific part it identifies and/or the model Bf 109 it was used on? Also, were any JG units assigned to the airfields around Stalingrad during the battle, or were the fighters there simply as transient escorts for other aircraft? Thank you, Steve Last edited by stephen f. polyak; 8th October 2009 at 04:42. |

Re: DBAG Data Plate
Hi Stephen,
Drawing number ´8/109.542´ indicates coming from wing component ... ! So not even wing mounted radiator (cooler) as that whould have had 8/109.700 to .799 series number. Best regards ed |

Re: DBAG Data Plate
Hi Stephen and Ed,
According to the spare parts list, the drawing number 8/109.542 refers to the left wing slat. It was used from the F model all the way to the late Gustav's. best regards, Tomislav |

Re: DBAG Data Plate
Thanks Ed, thanks Tomislav.
Wing slats it is; imagine that! I wonder if my association of D.B.A.G with Daimler-Benz is correct. Does anyone care to adddress the stationing of 109 units at Stalingrad airfields? Last edited by stephen f. polyak; 8th October 2009 at 16:02. |

Re: DBAG Data Plate
Pitomnik was base for most of JG 3 and JG 52 from late September 1942.
