Smile Peter Turnbull

Dear All,
I have a question about the Australian ace Peter Turnbull.

'The pilots collected Gloster Gauntlets from 102 MU at Abu Sueir the same day and proceed to 208 Squadron the following day while the ground crew followed in a Bombay.
Flying Officer Turnbull was evacuated to hospital from the detached flight with 208 Squadron on 6 October. He was replaced by Flight Lieutenant Gordon Steege.
Turnbull re-joined the unit at Helwan on 14 October.'

Did he get wounded?
(By the way, what was a detached flight? I haven't been able to find an adequate explanation.)

Thank you in advance. :-)

Re: Peter Turnbull

Hello,

The info comes from the 3 RAAF Squadron ORB and unfortunately doesn't includes any more info. However, it doesn't seems that he suffered any accidents since no Aircraft were written off.

Best wishes/Håkan

Re: Peter Turnbull

Thank you very much for your answer. I am glad to hear that he did not have any accident, but, after all, one is not normally sent to hospital for no reason. I suppose something happened to him, but it is a pity that the RAAF documents do not include any more info.
Best wishes,
Teresa

Re: Peter Turnbull

Hi all

There is nothing in his personal file in Canberra that adds anything.

Early 3 RAAF records are a bit less than perfect as the ops truck was burnt down early 1941, destroying a lot of their records. Dangerous fire hazard, having a brew up in the desert.

Cheers

Russell
