The above was on the Sqn May 1941-any idea of his initials as F540 doesn't list them

If Sgt Maurice William Mills RAFVR (1464204) is your man, then

Andy: Unlikely that your Mills is the same as 1941
Icare: Possible but without a date and Sqn in 1941 and such a common name hard to say

Pretty safe to rule out Maurice William Mills as your man.

His NCO number is in the middle of a block issued:


1425001 to 1474999 Apr 1941 Cardington

Air 28-851 has a KP Mills as a Pilot on the squadron in May '41.

Sounds promising. Commissioned from WO in July 1943, he was killed with 429 Sqn 22 Oct 43
