9./KG77 Observer

Folks

I wounder if anyone could shed some light on an Observer from 9./KG77 which is scratched on the reverse of an early Observer badge.

What I can see is 9./KG77 and Königgrätz on one side, on the other what looks like Auonker or Huonker.

The badge is in really good condition which makes me think he could have been a KIA (and the badge sent home), a WIA and retired or only worn when on home leave.

Anyone ever seen the name before or have lists from KG77?

Thanks
Rich

Hello Richard,

Nice piece to have, I'm envious. Your assumption is correct.

16 October 1940: 9./KG77 Junkers Ju88A-1 (5139). Crashed at Roye, south-east of Amiens, due to icing during return from sortie over England. FF Oberlt Georg Reiß, HB Fw Christian Huonker, BF Uffz Erich Horbank, and BM Fw Walter Herzig all killed. Aircraft 3Z+DT 100% write-off.

Peter

I have had this badge for several years, trying to research the name on the web every now and again and I never thought to post the info here. You were able to supply the information I have been seeking for years in less than 1 hour.

My profound thanks to you!

Rich

I have to agree with Peter Cornwell. A truly superb item, and I join Peter in the list of the envious....!!

Re: 9./KG77 Observer

Thanks Andy.

I'm a collector of LW awards and occasionally one comes along like this that has a few details of the recipient scratched into the reverse.

I also have an Ehrenpokal to Otto Stadel which I have been able to research extensively. If you'd like I can post it.

Re: 9./KG77 Observer

Hello again

As luck would have it I have made contact with a living relative of Christian Huonker. He has been asking what is the source of the information about the crash details.

Is there anywhere he can research further about Christian Huonker?

Thanks
Rich

Evening, wonderful item Richard, a truly great piece.
Would anybody have a scan from the NVM for this incident, or help with EKM No's for this crew?

Best regs,
Steve.

Re: 9./KG77 Observer

Hi Rich. No, I'm merely a collector. I got the document from another collector about 10 years ago. At the time I searched and found nothing regarding the name, so I kind of forgot about it. Lately I've been hauling things out since I'm selling off things that don't fit the theme of my collection, so I checked again and Bingo! your thread came up. Just one of those lucky coincidences that happen now and then. Do you still have the badge?

BTW, I'm pretty sure the signature is Ulrich Grauert's, which is pretty interesting in itself.

Regards,
Kevin
