6./KG2 Do 217 E4 - U5+GP - W. Nr 5459 - August 19, 1942
Good evening,
I am researching the Dornier Do 217 E4 - U5+GP - W. Nr 5459. It crashed on August 19, 1942 during an operational sortie in Dieppe against Operation Jubilee. The crew was as follows: * FF Oberfeldwebel Klein Walter * BO Oberfeldwebel Lemser Hugo * BF Feldwebel Fritsch Wilhelm * BM Obergefreiter Schiroky Siefried Do you have any information and / or documents on this aircraft and its crew? Thank you in advance for your answers. Best regards, Francois |

Took off 1154 hrs, hit by flak and crashed 40 km NNW Dieppe. Crew baled out-Klein missing, Fritsch killed, remainder wounded

Thanks for all the information.
I would like to point out that the plane crash took place not 40km away at the NNW of Dieppe but at the NNE because the impact took place near the cliff according to the testimony of Hugo Lemser published in the Luftwaffen Review 2012-04. |

The location comes from Luftwaffe records so do you have a more precise location?

I don't have specific indications of the location of the crash, but Hugo Lemser in his testimony to the Luftwaffe court martial stated that he had taken refuge at the cliffs and had seen the plane crashed.
The cliffs, coming from Dieppe, end in Ault so the plane must have crashed in this sector because Ault is 32km from Dieppe in a straight line. |

I'm taking a French or English translation of Fritsch's file because I don't understand German.
Thank you in advance |

Hello,
I managed to get from the collector who owns small parts of the Dornier Do 217 a picture of the part where there is the identification of the plane. What does E 20 L mean as you can see on the picture? Thank you in advance for your answer François |
