Re: II./ZG26 Losses 12-May-1944

Chris,

Yes, personnel was reassigned. Quite a number of pilots joined JG 6 (for some their previous unit ZG 1 or ZG 26), just like Hptm. Weyl. On May 8th - 9th ground echelons of JG 6 tried to reach American held territory.

Hi John,
Thanks for your reply.

I found a reference that Weyl was in command of II./JG6 from 30 Mar 45 thru May 45. There was reference to some Doras flying out on 8 May and surrendering at Furth. Obviously Weyl was not among them. I somewhat expected to read that these aircraft would be ME-262s. I have not yet found reference to the aircraft used by the Staffeln

Cowardice...I can not find another word to express it....9th May 1945...the war had ended and surely all knew it, via BBC, via Official Channels, etc....

Why Hauptmann Weyl (and possibly other LW airmen or WH men) were "murdered" after the end of the war????

A.

First, a lot of people were angry at Germans in the area. There were many cases of killing of German in the area during the summer (but not as much as German survivors claimed).

Second, ground fighting in Czechoslovakia only stopped on 10 or 11 May in some areas, where German troops continued to fight to try to join the US occupied lands, or allow other, especially civilians, to do that.

Let us not touch this subject in this thread or on this board. The events were horrendous on the German side during the war and on the Czech side during the summer of 1945.
