Peter Taghon's LG 1 - band 2

Gentlemen,
I would not presume to post a review of Band 2 of Peter Taghon's LG 1 opus as it is a task of experten far more versed in the german language and the subject matter than I; this is just a "first look" to whet your appetites, if you will.

Peter Taghon's german language history of LG 1 had been in progress for quite some time and changed publishers before it was published in softcover by VDM Heinz Nickel in 2004. Band 1 describes the period 1939-mid 1942, while band 2 takes up the narrative from April 1942 till the final battles on the Oder.
The main body of the book comprises day-by-day actions of the unit in various locations.
The chapters and pagination in chronological order are : (no umlauts on my screen unfortunately)

[ Whew ! ]

Foreword : Wolfgang von Bergh, former StaKa LG 1 1944, later Generalleutnant in the Bundesluftwaffe

Detailed appendices (with an index for the appendices !) including :

- names of Geschwaderkommodore, Gruppenkommandeure and Staffelkapitane
- periods of residence at various airfields
- detailed loss lists (1942 - 1945)
- A list of the Ritterkreuztrager of LG 1
- monthwise breakup of aircraft type in service with each gruppe
- Source listing (primary and secondary)
- facsimilies of various documents

Total page count is 569, with 178 b&w photographs (they are numbered). To my eye, a majority of them looked unpublished, showing a variety of camouflage schemes, personnel, crashsite of Georg Sattler, several aerial views of bomb attacks (Leros island, Russia), an interesting shot of the fahrgastschiff (passengership or troopship?) Waimarama, a part of the Pedestal convoy, blowing up, with a KG 26 He 111 silhoutted in the foreground. One small caveat : I was hoping for more coverage of the Ju 88S, however, this type's photocoverage is a little limited in the book.

All in all, quite a book. Haven't seen Walter Waiss's opus-in-progress, but feel this one could give it a run for its money for the best Kampfgeschwader history out there.

Here's hoping for an encore !
