Werner Streib's Career
Does anyone have a list of dates showing Werner Streib's promotions from Leutnant to Oberst, and then his date of promotion to Brigadegeneral in the 60s.
I am also interested in any sources about his career in the Luftwaffe, as well as his post war career in the Bundesluftwaffe. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation.

Re: Werner Streib's Career
Hello David,
We meet again! Well, about Streib´s career the necrology I have about him will help to fill in some after war exploits so I will check my Werner Streib file about that too. One warning about Streib´s first operational combat in Heinkel He219. In much books has been written that "in the weeks after 11/12 June 1943, 20 bombers including 6 Mosquito´s were shot down with He219´s" or similar phrases. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT so please don´t repeat that mistake! According to a document of the Heinkel industry, the first Mosquito victims to He219 was not earlier then May 1944 ! All the best, Marcel Hogenhuis

In the same date, in the first mission with the UHU, Major Werner Streib, and his funker Obergefreiter Helmut Fischer shot down five RAF bombers, (4 Halifax + 1 Lancaster). They supported by the land control with Walter Knickmeier, or my infos incorrect? salute! -RvB- |

Re: Werner Streib's Career
Hello RvB,Though I tend not to answer on anonymous postings, I can confirm that Oblt. Walter Knickmeier from the 20./Ln.Rgt.211 directed Streib to his victims.

Re: Werner Streib's Career
AIR PROGRESS, the US general aviation magazine, did a feature on Streib back in early 1965, if I recall correctly. Included a He-219 three-view.
