FW190 JG2 at Nantes in 23/9/1943
A old man living near the Chateau-Bougon airfield during WW2 saw several FW190 in landing quickly at Nantes in 1943. Several aircraft were damaged in the confusion.
In a list received afew days ago I noted that in 1943 septembre 23 (date of Nantes bombing), 5 aircrafts are noted as : Nantes JG2 FW190A6 Wn170039 (100) Nantes JG2 FW190A6 Wn530312 (100) Nantes b. JG2 FW190A6 Wn530395 (100) Nantes b. JG2 BF109G6 Wn19472 (100) Nantes b. JG2 FW190A6 Wn 470012 (40). So I try to find a connection between the both informations. Do you more inforrmations about this event? Friendly |

Re: FW190 JG2 at Nantes in 23/9/1943
There is a great picture of Oblt Josef Wurmheller FW-190A-6 (Wk # 530314) in Rodeike's FW-190 book on this date Sept 23.1943. The plane should be listed in your list as the plane is torn in half. Wurmheller was caught by the bombing while landing and was lucky to survive. He was severely injured in this event.

Re: FW190 JG2 at Nantes in 23/9/1943
My uncle was in the 379thbg he was a Tailgunner on a B17 thats original target was Rennes but because of smoke and cloud cover they went to the secondary target Nantes to St Jaques Airdrome. They were hit and downed by fighters on this mission. The AC#42-29937 crashed somewhere around there 8 crew members were captured and sent to camps and 2 evaded capture. One of it's engines is in a Airwarfare museum in Nantes.

Re: FW190 JG2 at Nantes in 23/9/1943
Andreas,
Some of the dates ahve a typo- the year is listed as 1944. I don't doubt that these should all be 1943. Carlos |
