Was XXII TAC part of Twelfth Air Force?

After the invasion of the southern France (Operation Dragoon, August 15th 1944), the forces of 12th AF were split to support both fronts, in southern France and northern Italy. Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Apparently the fighter-bombers (which units?) of XII TAC stayed in France to form the 1st TAF together with the French Air Corps, while in Italy a new Tactical Air command, XXII TAC, was formed (again, which units formed it?). Was XXII TAC still a part of 12th AF?
I'm especially interested in Thunderbolt outfits - how were their forces split? I know that, for example, 79th FG returned from France to Italy in October 1944 and until the VE-Day was subordinated to the British Desert Air Force.

Thank you in advance

Re: Was XXII TAC part of Twelfth Air Force?

Thank you Schenck, this info casts some light.
The movement of MTO Thunderbolts was somewhat erratic and I've been finding conflicting info. Again, correct me, if I'm wrong:
In July 1944 there were five P-47 outfits serving with 12th AF in MTO: 27th, 57th, 79th, 86th and 324th FGs (350th FG converted to P-47 in August/September 1944).
In mid-August, 27th, 79th and 324th FGs moved to France to support the American drive up the Rhone Valley. 324th FG stayed in France and in November was incorporated into the 1st Franco-American TAF. 27th and 79th FGs returned to Italy in October, whereupon 79th FG was attached to the British Desert Air Foirce until VE-Day. In February 1945, 27th and 86th FGs were transferred out of Italy to join 1st TAF.

Re: Was XXII TAC part of Twelfth Air Force?

My Dad was with the 561st Signal Aircraft Waring Battallion, and also with the 311th and the 78th Fighter Contron Squadron. He was in North Africa, Sardina, and Italy. If you want to know where the 78th was when, I can look at Dads letters and see if I can track where he was...The graphic for the 78th was a giraffe on roller skates, mountains in background, headset on, and radio held in its mouth...

The attached document extract shows the units of XXII TAC in 1945, as part of Mediterranean Allied Tactical Air Forces (MATAF).
