Correct designation for French engine

Hello,

How is the correct way of writing the name of the Gnome-Rhône K 14 engine. I've seen a numer of different ways and wonder if someone knows how to give the name correctly.

Is it
Gnome-Rhône or Gnome et Rhône?

Is it K14 or 14K?

Would the French AF have written it in the same way as the engine manufacturer?

How is it given in for example contemporary French handbooks?

I'm leaning towards
"Gnome-Rhône 14K" but would appreciate confirmation based on contemporary source.

Best regards
/Mikael

Re: Correct designation for French engine

Good evening Mikael !

Since I'm in the possession of some French Aviation magazines (Battailes Aeriennes) the French written term of the (example Bloch 131) engine is : "Gnome-Rhône 14N 10/11 de 14 cylindres en étoile à refroirdissement par air.

best wishes !

designation
- manufacturer (1,2 letters or name)
- number of cylinders
- type:1 to 4 letters/number
- suffix; odd or even number (odd, turn clockwise, even, anticlockwise, seen ahead)

GR 14 N-25
Gnome et Rhone, 14 cylinders , type N, clockwise

HS14Ab10/11
Hispano Suiza, 14 cyinders, type Ab, anticlockwise/clockwise

HS12Y31
Hispano Suiza; 12 cylinders, type Y, clockwise

Re: Correct designation for French engine

We usually use Gnome-Rhône (and Hispano-Suiza) with a hyphen.
