Re: unknown dora nine?

The same photo appears on page 290 of "The Focke-Wulf Fw190 Dora" by J.Crandall and as per Phas3e previous post, it is indeed captioned as"Brown 2" of 7./JG26 and was taken at Schleswig...

Re: unknown dora nine?

hi,

thanks for that. but nevertheless: do other jg26-machines have these numbers on their wheel-doors? i only saw this in the same way in jg5. but these never flew d-9, i know. but then i thnik that this d-9 might belongs to another unit, doesn´t it?

all the best

Yes, 7. /JG 26 used to do it on at least Braune 18, 14, 4 and 2, if this one is acually brown 2.
It's strange that it doesn't have the black and white bands as all other JG 26 machines I have seen.

Re: unknown dora nine?

Hello Jim,
There are several other known photos of 7./JG 26 D-9s with numbers on the lower landing gear goors. One of the best known is "Brown 4" W.Nr.500647 with a Ta 152 tail. Another one is "Brown 18" flown by Lt. Günter Seyd photographed at Schleswig next to the "Brown 2" in question. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Jerry
