G/C Raymond Price DFC

G/C Raymond Price DFC - RAF Coastal Command

Died peacefully at the weekend. Ray joined 254 Squadron in early 1941 as the unit prepared to move to Dyce (Aberdeen Airport). His usual horseman was the late 'Tubby' Randall and the footman F/S Tyson.
Sgt Price was commissioned in the summer of 1942 after W/C McConnell saw 'his full potential' Ray was part of the North Coates Strike Wing with New Zealander 'Bill Sise, both later joining 235 Squadron at Portreath. He and Sise then took command of 248 Squadron, carrying out numerous strikes in the Bay of Biscay, and after the move to Banff Scotland off the Norwegian coast and in the fjords too.

I was in the process of compiling his memoirs when he tragically died. Fortunately we managed to cover 1941 through to 1945, I'm sure there were many more sad and hilarious stories to come to the fore.
