Bf 109 G-6 WNr 26129 of 11./JG 54, lost 11 January 1944

Apparently the wreck, or at least parts of it, of the Bf 109 G-6 WNr 26129 of 11./JG 54 had been recovered in Russia some time ago.

According to my source (the JG 54 loss list) this fighter was shot down by enemy fire in Pl.Qu. (25 Ost/) 9975 on 11 January 1944 and his pilot, Uffz. Eberhard Wollmann, was killed.

I would like to know if the precise crash site is known and when the excavation has been done.

By the way, the same WNr is shown on Nick Beale's website for a JG 77 loss in Italy on 7 April 1944 (http://www.ghostbombers.com/Kittyhawks/Engelhardt.html).

Thanks in advance

Laurent

Laurent,

If this aircraft is the same. It was recovered from Russia and parts were used to restored to static Bf109F-4Z 10132 +>> of Horst Carganico II/JG5 now on display in Canada. The Bf109 pilot of the G-5 was killed. The W.Nr rings a bell though would have to check.

regards

Mark

I have a note with my recording of the Wollmann loss that the data plate with WNr. was found with the wreckage confirming it as WNr. 26129. It's in Stephen Polyak's collection. Could Engelhardt's machine have been WNr. 27129?

Laurent,
According to Volksbund.de Wollmann KIA 44-01-14. Is 44-01-11 correct ?
