congratulations

To my country on it's 240th birthday!

The real question is not whether we will survive another 240 years, but this year's elections!

Re: congratulations

Dear John,

We do live in interesting times. The big question is whether we will survive all of the insanity here in the U.S. and the rest of the world.

And then, there is the secondary question as to what will become of all the political reporters once the U.S. election is over? What will fill the airwaves that supposedly constitutes "news"? Frankly, I've been watching "BBC World News" for a more worldly view of what is going on.

Regards,
Richard

If it's anything like BBC home news has been recently, you must be desperate!

Re: congratulations

Dear Nick,

To be more specific, I watch "BBC World News America". Presenters rotate amongst Jane O'Brien, Katty Kay, and Laura Trevelyan. It runs about 26 minutes on PBS with, thankfully, no commercials. And, it is news, not a news magazine. On the typical national news in the early evening, perhaps half of the limited actual news time is consumed with a single story, ad nauseum. I'd estimate that about 50% of the 30 minute broadcast is consumed with advertisements, meaning that we only get about 15 minutes of actual news time and, as I said, about half of that on a single story - which is the lead story for either ABC, NBC, or CBS - simply peas from the same pod.

This being World News, I get to see what is going on beyond our borders. Of course, if ISIS blows something up somewhere, that's the lead story for the national news. And, we hear it for days, all day long on cable TV, until the next "major" story breaks.

Regards,
Richard
