LW coordinates help

How to convert the reference points found on DEFE/HW messages into regular coordinates?
Ex: Point One Seven One Five Four

Re: LW coordinates help

Hello

Have you tried the converter located here :

http://submarine-at-war.ru/docs/gradnetz_eng.html

For example, if you are concerned by western France including Brittany, you have to choose 14W for Zusatzzahlgebiet, and in this case 17154 will be located approximatively between Cholet and Bressuire

Thank you Jean. Unfortunately as the above code point to somewhere on land in Sicily (13O then) seems that the Gradnetz Convertion fails in this case. Other DEFE/HW reports contain similar codes so there must be a different convertion key

Re: LW coordinates help

Hi Marquis

Could you share the DEFE 3 reference if it is available to view online?

As you maybe aware depending on source of the message they could be using Luftwaffe grids, Kriegsmarine grids, by the Heer (army) or if from an Allied source the GSGS/AMS grid systems.

Kind regards
Pierre
