2nd Luftflotte September 1943

How many casualties (KIA WIA MIA) had the Luftflote 2 during September 1943, in Italy, attacking Allied invasion areas in whole South Italy?

Re: 2nd Luftflotte September 1943

This is a huge question. Ways to find this out that I can think of:

1. It is possible that a figure is given in Dr. Karl Gundelach’s book “Die Deutsche Luftwaffe im Mittelmeerraum”. As I remember, it had a lot of charts and statistics.

2. By carefully working through the Quartermaster General’s loss reports at either the Bundesarchiv in Freiburg or the microfilm copies at the Imperial War Museum in London (not possible right now, of course).

3. There weren’t that many units active over Southern Italy at the time and histories of some of those have been written, so you could start to get an idea from those books but not a complete picture.

Or, if you don't want to re-invent the wheel, you could invest in the book A history of the Mediterranean Air War 1940-45 Vol 4

It should cover the whole month, but only gives operationally related losses.
When it comes to multiple seated aircraft, you only get the name of the pilot plus the number of other casualties in that aircraft.

Cheers
Stig
