Wg Cdr B E Smythies DFC
The above, who commanded 64 Sqn throughout the First World war, was killed in a flying accident at RAF North Weald on 17 June 1930. The AHB has no aircraft or sqn details-can anyone help?

Got it. He was Stn Cdr North Weald and his Moth K1209 collided with a steam roller on take off

Arrived 4 April 1923 Departed 30 September 1923 Decorations MiD (1918), DFC (1919) Notes Commissioned in Royal Engineers, 1905; seconded to RFC, Jan 1915; permanent commission, Aug 1919; OC 41 Sqn, 4 April-30 September 1923; seriously injured in a flying accident at North Weald, but died of his injuries the same day, 17 June 1930; funeral with full military honours, North Weald, 21 June 1930 |

News reports say he was taking off from North Weald for Hendon when his aircraft hit the top of an iron rolller used on the cricket pitch plane caught fire he was critically injured and died later but passenger thrown clear
