Exclamation Me-109 damaged due to bombardement on St-Trond airfield Belgium on June 14 19944

Hello ,

On June 14 1944 the airfield of St-Trond in Belgium was bombed by USAAF bombers. Several Me-109's were damaged or destroyed. Where the Me-109's from JG26 ?

Regards

I have none, only "Erla-Werke St. Trond" as far I know.

The result of that attack was: ten Bf 109G-6 from Erla repair shop Antwerpen damaged or destroyed plus one Bf 110 from I./NJG 3 damaged.

Interesting,

So, if I understand well your answer, St. Trond and Antwerpen, while separated by a distance of 95km, got one Erla shop:
Hence, ONE Erla Shop? If so, where exactly?
Or, TWO Erla shops and you are talking about destructions occurred in Antwerpen (Antwerp, Anvers) one when the original request does concern St. Trond.

This with all my due real respect Gerhard.
Is it a problem of clerck typo, double documentation about that event with different data, unreadable hand-made correction on original document or what?

...

Thank you.
Best regards,
Franck.

The Erla repair shop was based at Antwerpen-Deurne, between May and July 1944 those aircraft, which had been finished, were flown to St.Trond where the final test flights were performed.

Re: Me-109 damaged due to bombardement on St-Trond airfield Belgium on June 14 19944

Hi Gerhard,

Thank you, much appreciated answer/explanation which seems more detailed than the simple "Erla-Werke St. Trond" given in BA-MA Signature RL 2 III/779, p.103.
Maybe, though destroyed at St. Trond, they were still considered as full part of "Erla-Werk" ... since the final flight tests were part of their scope.
...
Or just a superficial misunderstanding between two persons whose born-language is not English.
...
Anyway, I have eleven Erla-Werk Antwerpen Bf109s in the destroyed list at St. Trond, not ten.
And no NJG3 Bf110 at all.

But, still this day, one Bf110G-4 of I./NJG3, destroyed, 100%, Technische Mängel, at Le Culot (Beauchevain).

Which is another subject/point for discussion I suppose.
My copies of GQM are somehow difficult to read and I have to rely on Georg Morrison and Michael Balls compilations

Regards,
Franck.

Re: Me-109 damaged due to bombardement on St-Trond airfield Belgium on June 14 19944

Further to this topic, thanks to George Morrison and Michael Balss loss lists, we have the following W.Nr's for the 11 Bf 109 G-6 strafed at St-Trond that day:

Mtt built Bf 109 G-6
1. W.Nr. 18 130 "KN+TT" damaged 10%
2. W.Nr. 160 721 "KS+ZC" damaged 20%
3. W.Nr. 161 019 "PP+BS" damaged 20%
4. W.Nr. 161 385 damaged 40%
5. W.Nr. 161 413 "NP+TJ" damaged 15%
6. W.Nr. 162 438 "BF+WN" destroyed 100%

Erla built Bf 109 G-6:
7. W.Nr. 27 969 (?) damaged 80% (note: this W.Nr. was recorded as 17 969; there are no known Bf 109 G-6 series in the W.Nr. 17xxx range, hence the possibility it was actually W.Nr. 27 969).
8. W.Nr. 410 057 damaged 40%
9. W.Nr. 410 893 "VP+IU" damaged 10%
10. W.Nr. 411 213 damaged 40%

WNF built Bf 109 G-6:
11. W.Nr. 20 042 damaged 20%
