Fighter Losses 30 Jan 44

On this day, Typhoons claimed to have destroyed 12 Fw 190s with one probable and one damaged all around 1300 hrs over France. 9 & 10./JG 2 lost three in the right area and time but does anyone have any ideas as to any other units?

Re: Fighter Losses 30 Jan 44

Maybe the reported P-47's claims could be misidentified as Typhoons?? Need a profound check of the USAAF P-47 claims for the day, over Holland...

Hi,
doesn't Heinz Knoke in "I Flew for the Fuhrer" give an account of this fight but refers to the enemy fighters as Spitfires

The Typhoon combats were all over France not Holland or Germany

Surely there must be far better shots Chris?
I would not give either damaged or probable to what we can see here.

Cheers

In a perfect world.....yes but it is a camera gun still hence the quality which considering is pretty good being low level, high speed, both aircraft manoeuvering and the combat taking place nearly 75 years ago! The pilot whose name is on the back is credited with its eventual destruction-I think there is another shot which shows its last few seconds but it is too indistinct

Ahh

I was not referring to better photos, technically, but better photos to indicate the aircraft's destruction.
From your answer I take it there is....

Cheers

Re: Fighter Losses 30 Jan 44

In my archives (without further details),I have 4 Fw.190 (III/JG2),1 Fw.190 (Stab/JG2:Hptm Fritz Edelmann),1 Fw.190(10/JG2:Hptm Bernhard Scheikbier) lost in region of Rouen.

The JG26 is not concerned (action not in that region).

So?.....Maybe a big Overclaiming....4 pilots with 2 claims each.

Michel
