SNCASE SE 100 question
Can anyone tell me how this a/c landed?
Was it on the main wheel or on the wheels attached to the fins first? |

Re: SNCASE SE 100 question
with an excess of speed, if the wheel touch first, the tail will be down, the aircraft will take off again for a short bounce. If they are the rear wheels, the nose will be down after, the pitch decrease and the aircraft do not bounce.
Now, it was possible to land on the main wheel first, push slightly the control stick when touch the runway, when the speed will decrease, the rear wheels will touch the ground. Ideally was an landing "3 points" as the classical aircraft |

Re: SNCASE SE 100 question
I agree with Waroff as far as the three point landing goes.
The landing gear was designed to get rid of the ground loop phenomena. As can be seen the nose-wheel was very sturdy and could probably accept a good deal of 'abuse' in the landing mode, but I doubt the intention was to use it as the main landing gear. Since the aircraft was never flown by any inexperienced crew(s) it is tricky to know if it was ever considered an easy aircraft to land. The take off should not have been any problems though. Re: SNCASE SE 100 question
Thanks guys.
But even during a 3 point landing not all wheels touch the ground in unison. Is the tail strong enough to take the load of it touching first? |

Re: SNCASE SE 100 question
It has to be.
Otherwise, in my mind, the aircraft is not well designed. Cheers Stig |

Re: SNCASE SE 100 question
As all aircraft with tail wheel, the tail was enough strong to support the impact when landing. It do not support all the weight because the CG is far forward and there is enough lift to lighten the load during a landing rounded.

Re: SNCASE SE 100 question
But on the SE 100 the wheels were at the end the stab. It must have been one strong spar especially if one of those wheels touched first.
