SAAF Losses in East Africa 1940-1941

The personel losses of SAAF over East Africa in 1940-1941 are known (79 KIA plus 5 MIA), but I wonder if there are know detail losses among SAAF's planes in the same period?

And next what about the SAAF's WIA?

Regards,
mw

The operational losses will be found in Dust Clouds Over The Middle East by Christopher shores, and perhaps other works on the subject, but I don't know of any source for the non-operational losses in the same period.

Very good book, indeed, I have it and there are no summary losses, and most of them are daily combat losses, but what about operational losses, there were some, a few too. This is the losses too.

This book I do not have, what about summary losses: combat and operational (non-combat - crashes, accidents etc.)?

regards

Re: SAAF Losses in East Africa 1940-1941

Hello Mirek,
If you would like I will seek out the 79 pilots and aircrew killed and 5 missing SAAF airmen from the book and also aircraft involved.

So will start date from 11th June 1940 as that is the date in "Dust Clouds in the Middle East" and end with the 5th April 1941 1941.

SAAF Squadrons involved were it seems - 1,2,3,11,12,14,24,40,41,50,60 with 34 Flight and 1 OTU.
