891 Sqdn FAA, Crash Nutts Corner 1945
Does any one have information about a possible Hellcat crash on take off at Nutts Corner 1945 involving an 891 Squadron pilot named Worner.
He survived and I'm just trying to find out which aircraft, it would be sometime in June to September 1945.

Re: 891 Sqdn FAA, Crash Nutts Corner 1945
Hello Dennis, found the following, no Pilot named Worner
http://cgibin.rcn.com/jeremy.k/cgi-b...=F-14&series=3 78458 to Royal Navy as Hellcat II JZ972. W/o when swung to starboard on landing and overturned, Filton, England Aug 30, 1945 Not sure if Filton is anywhere near Nutts Corner http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/l...hp/t45579.html Sturtivant/Ballance: The Squadrons of the FAA 2nd Ed, (Air Britain, 1994), page 319 shows port side of JZ972 of 891 Squadron in a distressed state after an u/c collapse at Nutts Corner, NI, on 3 Sept 1945. Overall Sea Blue Gloss, C/C1 roundels and fin flash, no codes, ROYAL NAVY and serial in 4" white. White maintenance stencils visible. Airframe clean and well maintained with a bit of exhaust staining on fuselage and wing root. This appears to be details of the same Aircraft, Note the different dates Kind regards Ross Last edited by RossGmann; 8th December 2011 at 09:00. |

Re: 891 Sqdn FAA, Crash Nutts Corner 1945
its OK guys, thanks for the help. Reading over what he sent me, he sent me the photos of his crash, it was evidently Hellcat JZ921 on September 3, 1945.
A lucky man as the aricraft is landed upside down with the right hand cockpit area almost ground into the runway!! Will be adding it to the website in the coming days. http://www.skynet.ie/~dan/war/crash_articles.htm best regards Dennis

Re: 891 Sqdn FAA, Crash Nutts Corner 1945
Found this:
Hellcat II JZ921 (former Buno 77801 ) presumably w/o after accident at Nutts Corner Sep 3, 1945. During aerodrome dummy deck landings, aircraft stalled on approach, struck runway with port wing, rolled onto back and crashed. Pilot injured. http://www.joebaugher.com/navy_seria...rdseries8.html Strange way to feat V-J day |

Re: 891 Sqdn FAA, Crash Nutts Corner 1945
The photos I was sent of an upside down aircraft badly damaged were of
Hellcat JZ921 for certain. Strangely, he also sent me photos of JZ912 damaged but right way up, certainly difference aircraft, different photos, different result to aircraft.

Re: 891 Sqdn FAA, Crash Nutts Corner 1945
Cheers Tony,
thats the one, I'll have photos of it and will laod them on teh website later this evening, keep an eye on: http://www.skynet.ie/~dan/war/crash_articles.htm for articles on Hellcat JV176 Sorry, TONY can you check that serial number again. The photos contain an aircraft marked JZ921, not JV921, can you double check the book again?
