Re: Markings on Me262 question
What is the source connecting Uffz Johann-Karl Müller with this particular aircraft?
He is not mentioned by Dan O'Connell under this WNr, nor in any other Me 262 source I have. Cheers Stig |

Re: Markings on Me262 question
No idea Stig.
What I do have is, "Built at Schwabisch-Hall and believed to be one of the first aircraft on strength with JV44, this aircraft was used for training, if not for operations and flown by Oberfeldwebel Josef Dobnig and Oberfeldwebel Rudolf Nielinger- the first 262 that these pilots flew." Still not really interested in who the pilot was but the strange markings. |

Re: Markings on Me262 question
Hi Kutscha,
This photo and caption is from the asisbiz.com website: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=694 Another aircraft: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/album....&pictureid=693 Under the heading of sheer speculation, I would suggest that these were IKEA instructions for re-assembly by do-it-yourself airframe fitters. "L" would stand for "links". I have seen these markings on only two other aircraft, W.Nr. 110 748 and W.Nr. 111585. It would be like telling your landscaper who was laying sod, "Green side up!". I think the idea met a quick death. Curiously, all four aircraft have the same style of camouflage. Best regards, Jim Last edited by Karoband; 15th May 2020 at 01:08. |

Re: Markings on Me262 question
Thank you Jim. It was suggested that it might have something to do assembly in the other discussion.

Re: Markings on Me262 question
Photos of W.Nr. 110748 indicate it had A6/L on the left outboard cowling (X2) and A6 on the forward fuselage. There is also something on the vertical stabilizer that I can't identify (A?).
I have never been able to identify what those specific markings meant. Mark Proulx |

Re: Markings on Me262 question
no answer to the initial question, but ...
I have to correct my former post: it wasn't a red "5", it was a red "S" ... and it was an training aircraft of "JV 44" at Brandenburg-Briest airfield!? regards ghost
