Re: Photo Friedrichshafen FF 49

Happens too easily Clint

This photo seems to be one of at least two taken when (statedly) the crew picked up some mail from an incoming motor vessel.
Initially I thought it was a blow up but it is not, it is a separate photo.

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Friedrichshafen FF 49

Stig,

Units are tricky with Naval unitrs, or at least I find that so. You seem to be aware of some detail on this machine. Do you know where it was based at the time of the incident you describe? As if I have entries at all for seaplanes on my excel dock rather than units most just have Seeflieger Station (insert name here).

Regards,

Clint

Re: Photo Friedrichshafen FF 49

Sorry Clint

Indeed unit allocation is very tricky to come by. No idea what is left in Germany as such. Not too many individuals are actually interested in this period. It is WW 2 that counts.

Unfortunately sellers just rip photos/cards out of their albums without bothering who it belonged to and thus in many cases rob us from a name they once belonged to and, I am certain, the place they were taken.

We are almost all the time left with a photo with nothing on the flip side and a seller who would not be able to differentiate between an Albatros fighter and a Messerschmitt 109.... Money, not history, talks on e-bay! There are exceptions, I know, but not many....

Cheers
Stig

Re: Photo Friedrichshafen FF 49

Hello,

Currently on ebay is one of several photos of a wrecked German seaplane at:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/X5573-Foto-W...MAAOSwAu5fsOeO

I believe that the serial may be 1703 and therefore the aircraft shown is a Friedrichshafen FF 49c. As for the large letters on the fuselage LID - ?

Regards,

Clint
