Re: Color Slides

The 262 at Innsbruck is rarely shown in such a good color photo. Thank you.

Re: Color Slides

Gents,

It would appear that several of these slides were taken in the Kassel area. The Ju 188’s match images taken of several aircraft known to have been at Kassel-Rothwesten:

Ju 188 D-2, WNr.230424, 7A+LM, 4./FAG 121
Ju 188 D-2, WNr.230???, 7A+RM, 4./FAG 121

I find it interesting that the individual letters are blue outlined in white, and not white per regulations. Or was the unit's 4 .Staffel part of its I. Gruppe? If so, that would explain the colour.

The photos of the junkpile and Fw 190 reveal that these aircraft are all D-9s. Based on their camouflage colours (RLM 81 and 82), national markings style (small black fuselage balkenkreuz), and lack of verbandkennzeichen, they are from the 601000 werknummer series. As is known, at least 15 D-9s from this series were discovered at Kassel-Waldau having been blown-up by retreating German forces.

The Me 262 A-1a is WNr.111751, a machine appearing on the 26 April 1945 document listing Me 262s to be found at München-Riem. This particular machine was listed on page 2 as “Recycled-Aircraft Memmingen-Industrie”., one of four aircraft so listed. As Dan has stated, the location is Innsbruck-Hötting.

These are fabulous images - thanks for sharing these with us Revi.

Cheers,

David

Re: Color Slides

Re: the blue Kennung. The 4.(F)/121 was part of FAG 3, and while it had been officially disbanded on 10.April, a number of its machines were still wearing 'their' markings, as the 4. Staffel of the Gruppe. They'd been based at Prague-Kbely 'til mid-April, then Hradec Králové to the end. This photo was taken at Kassel where "7A+RM" (foreground) and WNr.230424, "7A+LM" fled.

Another, "7A+PM" was left behind and destroyed by attaching an explosive charge to the center-section. Three others, "7A+HM", "7A+MM" and "7A+TM" were not blown up, but weren't flyable. All wore a blue letter, outlined white.

Rajlich, Kokoka and Janda's Luftwaffe Over Czech Territory, JaPo, 2001 has nice coverage of this.

Re: Color Slides

Thank you, but it doesn't seem to have all of them.

I'm anxious to see these Doras Mr. Brown mentioned.
