The explanation is that in a reconnaissance unit there is only the one Gruppe, no matter how many Staffeln it has. From memory all recce units were single independent Gruppen, rather than being part of a Geschwader structure.

Both F 122 and F 123 got as far as having a 6. Staffel, although I'm not sure all six were in being at any given time.

DEB. Outline colour versus basic colur inside outline = same
(its if you see two colours on the same letter, then the shit has hit the fan)
(Black outline in White excluded)

Nick. Yes, basically. If (one) Group was more than three Staffel´n (White, Red, Yellow)...

(F)/123 had all six, but as we know 6.(F)/123 was rather more special ..
